I'm Depressed Now

If you are an animal lover, have ever had to put down a beloved pet, or have young children, do not -- I repeat, do NOT -- go see the movie "Marley & Me".

It was almost 2 hours long, terribly boring at times, with one of the most depressing endings I have seen in a very long time. It brought back horrendously painful memories of my precious kitty Tiger's terminal visit to the vet five years ago.

Trust me, do not go see this movie. It is not a light-hearted kids flick like how the TV ads portray. :(

I've Still Got It

The checker at Safeway asked me for ID yesterday when I went to buy some beer.

Makes me feel just a little better about turning 35. :/

More LOLCat Fun

Some years ago, our family pet was a supremely intelligent grey tabby, appropriately named Tiger. One of Tiger's favorite sleeping spots was the couch, in whichever area the sunbeam hit.

On one particular day, my father went to sit on the couch, and was startled by the sound of muffled hissing. He removed himself from his seat, to find Tiger squashed in between the cushions, with a very angry look on her face. She dislodged herself from the couch cushions and walked off in digsust.

Today's LOLCat illustrates this chain of events just perfectly.

The Passing of a Leader

Ted Rogers, former CEO of the Canadian telecommunications company Rogers, passed away yesterday.

I worked for Rogers for almost 5 years at the beginning of my career. Ted was a visionary; someone who boldly ventured into new technologies long before they became mainstream. In the mid-1990s, when I joined the company, the cable modem Internet service was a 250-customer beta test. When I left in 2001, it was a booming cross-country network serving upwards of 100,000 customers. And in addition, it was a pretty damned fun place to work.

Ted Rogers was a brilliant visionary and an exceedingly charismatic leader, but at times, his stubbornness was legendary. Many engineering proposals spoke of the dreaded "T-Factor", the probability that Ted would decide he did not like the proposal for some arbitrary reason, and shoot it down without discussion.

Battiness aside, he led a good company into greatness. And he will be missed.
