And the Yearly Playoff Meltdown Begins...

The Sharks have outdone themselves this time.

Last year, in 2009, they won the President's Trophy for the winningest team in the entire league, and then were quickly and quietly dumped in the first round of the playoffs by the eighth place team. At that time, we thought it couldn't possibly get any worse.

We may be proven wrong in 2010.

This year, they finished first in the Western Conference, and are now down 1-2 in the best-of-seven series, against this year's eighth-place team.

Last night was the epitome of complete and total playoff fuckery, when Dan Boyle put the puck in his own net, winning the game in overtime for the Colorado Avalance.

When is this ever going to end ? The Sharks have been abysmally bad, almost every year, when it really counts - the playoffs. Despite excellent winning records in several seasons, they have only made it to the Conference Finals (3rd round) once in their entire history. Only one year out of the 12 years that they have made the playoffs, have they made it to the third round. And never to the Stanley Cup finals. What is wrong with this picture ?!

If they do not win tonight, they are, for all intents and purposes, done. It shouldn't be this hard to advance to the second round against the 8th place team.

I must admit I have little hope. I really hope I am proven wrong, but this dread in the pit of my stomach will just not go away.

Little hope? The Sharks have completely dominated the last 2 games! If they keep it up, Craig Anderson will turn human at some point and it's not a stretch to say the Sharks could easily win the next 3 games - certainly the next 3 of 4. Keep the hope alive! LET'S GO SHARKS!!!
